BALAYAGE – EVERYTHING YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS NEW HAIR COLOR TREND

It’s effortless to choose & then love balayage hair color, the fabulous hair trend that has taken red carpets by storm. The end look is achieved via hand-painted highlights & “customers absolutely admire the technique because it gives a straightforward sunkissed look to their hair & the maintenance is a lot much easier than that of traditional foils,” says Albert, Owner & Creative Director of Salon Aura.

My Salon Aura is a highly recognized, upscale hair salon in the Port Washington area & appreciated as one of the best salons in Nassau County & the encompassing regions. We are a full-service hair salon that offers the newest trends, styles & techniques in hair cutting & coloring services.

Do you also want to recreate those familiar highlights you used to have as a kid? Balayage can surely do that. It really makes you look & feel like you just turned from lavish summer holidays. Balayage responds, “I have great hair,” in a subtle yet noticeable way — not flashy & obvious. Here is everything you should know about this fascinating trend.

WHAT IS BALAYAGE?

Pronounced BAH-LEE-AHGE, balayage is basically a French word signifying ‘sweeping,’ to sweep on a hair lightener to perform highlights. It’s a process of free-hand painting highlights onto someone’s hair, producing a soft & natural degree of lightness towards the ends.

The end result is the fresh look of summers spent at some lovely beach. This natural-looking perfect highlighting technique is just not for blondes but also for all types of hair shades to supplement softness & sunkissed dimensions.

Of course, there are some variations in Balayage application preferences. Some colorists at the salons do not separate the hair. In contrast, others try to separate the hair with cotton pieces & some others prefer separating the hair using foil as a divider.

Various application nuances present slightly varied results, but the chief reason balayage has grown so popular is that it lets colorists hand-select the hair sections they want to highlight. Because of the customized, natural-looking placement, balayage also concedes for a softer grow-out.

WHY IS BALAYAGE SO POPULAR?

  • IT REQUIRES LESS MAINTENANCE THAN MOST HAIR COLORS

Since the process is designed to look at grown-out roots in a way that’s flattering & natural instead of stark & skunky, it’s less work to maintain. That translates to less time & money spent at the salon & in turn, more minor damage is done to the hair.

  • IT’S CUSTOMIZED

Every balayage procedure is different: Positioning, gradation & coloring entirely depends on your hair shade, texture & length, so it can be altogether personalized for every client to highlight or soften facial features.

A skilled stylist will always consider the customer’s skin tone & natural base color of the hair to decide which tones will suit best. Keep that in mind no two balayage procedures would look the same.

Many forms of this hair color trend are not patterns a hairstylist follows. We at My Salon Aura look at the hair as a whole & discover the pieces that would accentuate specific features or a specific haircut. Our clients love it because it’s somewhat more tailored to them.

  • IT’S TRENDY

Celebs from Chrissy Teigen to the Kardashians have given the hair color trend a boost, so it is no wonder that balayage gained its fame with the masses. Recently a report said that a search for the hashtag “#balayage” produces more than 20 million results on Instagram.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HIGHLIGHTS & BALAYAGE?

Highlights in the salon field is a generic term that refers to lighter hair than the base color. Opposite to common belief, highlights are not only for blondes. Still, they can be referred to as lightening strands of any color of hair.

Highlights are typically implemented using a technique called “foiling,” in which some sheets of foil are practiced to separate strands of hair that have been treated with color or lightener before covering them in the foil to concoct.

The foil sheet keeps the lightener from getting on the neighboring hair & traps heat, enabling the lightener to lift somewhat more efficiently. Foil highlights are usually placed pretty close to the scalp, lightening the whole part of hair from the roots to the tips for an all-over highlighted look.

Whereas balayage is a free-hand method of implementing highlights & does not usually use foil sheets to separate the hair. Balayage forms a soft & natural gradation of lightness along the hair strand, typically somewhat deeper closer to the scalp & a bit lighter towards the ends. Generally, balayage commences away from the roots & is centered towards the mid-shafts & tips of the hair.

CAN EVERY HAIR TYPE TRY BALAYAGE?

Yes! Any texture & color can have this trending process named balayage done. Even if your hair is extremely dark or kinky-curly, you can then also try out these natural-looking highlights.

Our Salon Aura experts believe Textured hair is best suitable for balayage because curls can be picked up pretty quickly & coloring the rings is also somewhat manageable.
